Victor M240 Electronic Rat Trap Review

Victor M240 on a Great Sale Here

Victor M240 Electronic Rat Trap Review

In the world of electronic rat traps, Victor is a great name.  The M240 is an awesome model for a number of different reasons.  The cost, for one thing, is unbeatable.  This model on sale, is right now only $40.  It puts out an impressive 8500 volts over a 3 plate system, which helps to ensure a kill.  Not only that, but they keep their voltage consistent over a period of time, unlike other brands which deliver a large burst of electricity and then cool down.  The Victor M240 makes sure the rat stays down.  Like the last trap we reviewed, Victor is definitely interested in having a high kill rate.  They only advertise a 90% kill rate, but in my mind, it’s probably higher than that.  Still, if you’re very concerned about high kill rate, the last trap we reviewed advertised a 100% kill rate.

Power

We’re not sure whether this is a plus or a negative, but the Victor M240 electronic rat trap using 4 C batteries instead of 4 D batteries.  This should make it cheaper to operate, but only gives you 12 kills per set of batteries instead of the 60 kills that the last rat trap we reviewed advertised.  This can have both pros and cons.  The biggest pro that I can see is that most people probably don’t have 60 rats running around.  So having to buy 4 D batteries just to kill a couple of rats is a bit of an overkill and definitely a waste of money.  The biggest con is that if you do have multiple rats running around, you want to make sure that you’re electronic rat trap has enough juice to exterminate all your pests, and not run out of power too soon.  Still, all in all, I’m glad Victor went with the C battery.  Unless you’re living out in the countryside somewhere and have a massive rat infestation, I really can’t see your trap killing 60 rats.  But, as always, the choice is yours.

Testimonials

The testimonials on this brand are mixed.  I read a fair amount of them, and overall they’re positive.  But it seems as though a lot of people have had bad experiences with this model.  It seems as though the newer versions of this model are constructed with cheaper materials than some of the older models and that some people seem to think that the 90% kill rate is an exaggeration.  So, in my mind, the question is one of cost verses efficiency.  If you know you only have one or a couple of rats, you probably don’t want to buy the top of the line system just to kill a few rodents, and this cheaper Victor M240 might be the right one for you.  But if you seem to have an ongoing rodent problem, you might want to check out the last electronic rat trap we reviewed.  It advertised a 100% kill rate and utilized some of the most advanced technology.

Rat Zapper Ultra Electronic Rat Trap Review

Rat Zapper Ultra Review

The Rat Zapper Ultra is one of the newest electronic rat traps out there.  It utilizes brand new technology, including power saving and infrared detection.  One of the problems that a lot of people have had in the past is that electronic rat traps seem to malfunction.  They either go off and zap when they’re not supposed to, or else the kill light comes on when there’s nothing in the chamber.  The second of the two is particularly disconcerting because it makes a homeowner wonder if the rat was actually inside the chamber at some point, got zapped, and was able to crawl out and limp away, probably to die in some dark hole somewhere inside the house and cause a rank odor.  But with infrared detection technology, this electronic rat trap has just one more tool for making sure it only goes off at the appropriate time.  This is especially good for prolonging the life of the rat trap.  If you have an electronic rat trap that’s constantly discharging when it’s not supposed to, you’ll not only wear out the batteries, but cause lots of wear and tear on the machine as well.

100% Kill Rate

I like that they advertise a 100% kill rate.  That means that they’ve taken the time to ensure that the Rat Zapper Ultra is humane and kills rats 100% of the time.  Electronic rat traps in the past haven’t always worked this well, and have seriously injured rats but didn’t always kill them.  This is a problem, not only from a cruelty standpoint but also from the standpoint that an injured rat will often find the smallest, darkest hiding place to hide in, like in between your walls, and try and recover.  Often, they’ll die there and start to decompose.  You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see how this is a very bad thing.  So killing the rat 100% of the time is not only humane but also just good for the homeowner.

Extra Power

The last rat trap we reviewed required 4 alkaline D batteries to operate, and claimed that with that power could kill approximately 30 rats.  This electronic rat trap requires the same amount of power but boasts that it can kill approximately 60 rats.  That’s twice as many kills with the same amount of batteries.  That’s pretty impressive.  The thing that I really like about the Rat Zapper Ultra is that they’ve taken the time to really design an efficient machine.  Electronic rat traps tend to wear out very quickly.  When they discharge on accident or don’t have good control of their power, they wear out even faster.  For my money, I’d rather pay a bit more for a better brand that’s going to last longer.  But that’s just me.

Agri Zap RZU001 Rat Zapper Ultra Review

The Agri Zap RZU001 is a pretty cool electronic rat trap.  It’s sleek, powerful and effective.  The reason I particularly like this rat trap is because it was built for large rats.  Rodents really do vary tremendously in size and this rat trap was built to house among the largest of pests.  This is good for two reasons.  First, because of the fact that it has the capacity to kill large rats, that means that it will very easily kill everything else as well.  Just like traditional rat traps, electronic rat traps aren’t a perfect science.  Little variances can cause things to go wrong sometimes and the rodent to not be instantly killed.  That’s why it’s nice to have a rat trap that’s built for large rodents, because most of the time you’ll only be dealing with small and medium sized rodents, and this electronic rat trap should always instantly eliminate them.

Pros

Not only that, but this trap is also very efficient.  It claims that you’ll get up to 30 kills from a set of 4 alkaline D batteries.  That’s pretty impressive considering the amount of voltage this trap emits in order to kill the rodent.  And this trap can be baited easily and with anything, including regular pet food.  But we recommend peanut butter or bacon as those are the foods that rats seem to most be attracted to.  It also comes standard with a kill light that tells you if there’s a dead rodent inside the apparatus.  All in all, this is a very effective electronic rat trap, which is why we gave it 4 stars.  The only reason we didn’t give it 5 stars is that its original cost is somewhat high.  It’s on sale right now, but the sale might not last forever, and the original cost is higher than some other equally effective brands.

Cons

The main con about this device is that it seems to wear out somewhat quickly.  They seem to break after less than a year, which isn’t all that surprising considering the level of voltage that these bad boys need to output.  The other thing that people have a problem with is that this unit is made in China.  Though most products these days are, for products like electronic rat traps that have to deal with high levels of voltage, circuits, and wires, they can break and malfunction more easily than a lot of household items.  I’ve read a lot of testimonials about this model, and by and large, this is the biggest complaint.  Though the testimonials are, by and large, overwhelmingly positive, it seems like some people get models that wear out early.

Tips for Making Your Electronic Rat Traps Effective

Tips for Maximizing the Effectiveness of Your Electronic Rat Trap

There are a lot of people who have had bad experiences with electronic rat traps.  They don’t think they’re very effective because the rat or rats aren’t going into them to be exterminated.  But this isn’t always the fault of the equipment, but many times can be the fault of the circumstances.  If you have an electronic rat trap set up and the rat isn’t going inside and being killed, then chances are that you’re either using the wrong bait, or else the rat is getting plenty of food from other sources.  Just for your information, rats absolutely love the smell of peanut butter and/or raw bacon.  If you aren’t using either of those as bait, then you aren’t really giving your electronic rat trap the opportunity to really shine.

But what about the other possibility.  What if the rat already has a luxurious supply of food elsewhere?  Most people don’t realize how clever rats are and how easy it is for them to break into cabinets, pantries, and other seemingly closed doors.  Not only that, but if you have house pets, then more than likely the rodent is feasting on your pet’s supply of food.  So in order to really make your electronic rat traps a success, you really need to eliminate your rodent’s luxurious living.  Lock up your pet’s food at night, check your cabinets thoroughly to see if there are any indications that the rat has been chewing on stored food supplies, and see if there are any easy access points to trash and other food sources.  Once you do those steps, you’ll find that your rodent has much less of an opportunity to feast.

At this point, your electronic rat trap will finally have the chance to do its job.  Rats just aren’t as curious as mice and other pests.  They’ll happily avoid the confined space of your electronic rat trap if they have a plentiful food source elsewhere.  If you know you have a rat problem and your electronic rat traps aren’t working, then it really must mean that the rats are finding ways to get full and happy elsewhere.  You really need to spend some time going over what those possible food sources might be and to eliminate them so that the rat can’t just have his midnight meal every night.  Hope these tips help!

Electronic Rat Trap Specifications

Electronic Rat Trap Questions

Many people have a lot of questions surrounding electronic rat traps.  They want to know things like are they waterproof, will they short out if they get wet, can they cause fires, what is their voltage level?  While electronic rat traps differ by brand, they all have to overcome the same obstacles.  Most electronic rat traps in the industry are both waterproof and UV resistant.  Since most electronic rat traps will be sitting outdoors, even simply the dew would be able to short them out if they weren’t designed to be waterproof.  That being said however, it’s still very important for you to go with a reputable brand.

Not all electronic rat traps are created equal.  Some of them have weaker voltage levels and safety features than others.  This can make them not only ineffective, but also dangerous.  That’s one of the reasons why we created this site, not only to promote this form of pest control, but also to do reviews on some of the different brands out there to help you make a wise decision on which one to buy.  There can be some big differences between models, and most of the better brands aren’t very much more expensive.  They’re definitely worth the extra $10 you’ll pay in being able to have both efficiency and peace of mind.

So what happens if the electronic rat trap isn’t powerful enough to kill the rats I’m dealing with?  Rodents can be quite different in size.  Some rats can get pretty huge.  But that’s why most of the good brands have a built in feature that will only allow an animal of a certain size to enter the compartment.  Most electronic rat traps look like mailboxes, and they have a door through which a rodent can enter.  Generally speaking, they’re designed in such a way that if an animal can fit inside the compartment, it will be killed easily by the level of voltage.

But what happens if the rats I’m dealing with are too big to fit in the compartment but still want the food inside and begin damaging the rat trap?  In this case, you may have a problem.  If you’re truly dealing with some big rats, then the electronic rat trap might not be the best technology for you.  Though the compartment is large enough to fit most any size rodent, for exceptionally large rats, they may try and claw up the rat trap to get to the food inside, which can create a dangerous situation.  So be advised that this has happened on rare occasion.

Why Electronic Rat Traps?

Why are Electronic Rat Traps Superior?

Electronic rat traps are just the best form of pest control, as far as we’re concerned.  Not only are they highly effective, they’re generally pretty cheap and clean.  Not only that, but they’re definitely the most humane pest control method for rats, mice and rodents on the market.  Traditional rat traps often do a poor job of killing a rat.  They’re designed to break the neck of a rat upon contact, but they rarely work as designed.  Often, they’ll hit a rat on the shoulder blades, or else on another part of the animal’s body, trapping and seriously injuring them, but not killing them immediately.  This causes undue suffering to the animal.

In other cases, when sticky traps are used, the animal lies helpless for many hours or even days, if not discovered immediately, and will often seriously maim or injure themselves in an attempt to escape.  Poison is an effective killer, doing the job more quickly than traps, but poisons have definite drawbacks as well.  If house pets are living on the property and find a rat killed by poisons and eat it, it can cause them to get sick and in some cases to die as well.  Though most poisons are designed not to be powerful enough to kill a full-sized house pet, they still have a definite chance of making them sick.  But this brings up another issue.  Because of the fact that rat poison makers can’t make their poison strong enough that a house pet will be harmed by it, this means that depending on how much a rat has eaten of the poison, it can take them quite a long time to die an unpleasant death.  This is another area where poison can be quite inhumane.

That’s why we really love electronic rat traps.  Not only are they quick and effective, they don’t cause the rodent any undue suffering.  They provide a lethal dose of electricity, in many cases up to 8500 volts, which quickly terminates their life.  Electronic rat traps are also nice in that they’re so easy to use.  A person simply needs to charge them properly, put a bit of food in the back of the device and turn it on.  Usually if there is a dead rodent in the device, it will light up a special light.  The person never has to touch the rodent, but can simply slide it out and dispose of it however they choose.  All in all, electronic rat traps are a great way to go.
